How would I balance the reaction equation of CH3COOH and NaHCO3 (acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate)? Also, what type of reaction is this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think this is a neutralisation reaction.......

OpenStudy (aaronq):

^ she's right, you're gonna make a salt and H2O

OpenStudy (jfraser):

are you asking to predict the products? because you have 2 reactants, but no products (yet). This reaction is a double replacement, followed immediately by the decomposition of one of the products.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need two products. What do I do...?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

it's a double displacement. If the formulas were written slightly differently:\[\large H \small C_2H_3O_2 + \large Na \small HCO_3 \rightarrow\] this double displacement reaction has to swap partners
