The value of an uncirculated" Mint State-65' 1950 Jefferson nickel minted in Denver is 9/5 the value a 1945 nickel minted in Philadelphia in similar condition. Together the total value of the two coins is $28. What is the value of each coin?

Ok, I think we got this. So, if one coin is (9/5)x, since they decided to use 5 as a denominator, to have the other coin be equal to 1, we would say it is (5/5)x. Now, if we add them together we get (14/5)x = 28. All that is left to do is solve for x. So if we multiply both sides by 5, we are left with 14x = 140. Then divide both sides by 14, and you have x = 10. We aren't quite done yet, however. They want the value of each coin, so if one is worth 10, then the other must be worth (9/5)10, which comes out to 18.
