What is a combustion reaction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i use linear algebra to solve it like for example 1 CdCO3(s) → CdO(s) + CO2(g) is orginal 1. i tag some coefficient to multiply the molecules using a b c and so on aCdCO3(s) → bCdO(s) + cCO2(g) 2 i set up a system to make them both equal on both sides for each element. You got 3 of them so you will have 3 equations one for each element a*Cd = b*Cd, a Cd on left b Cd on right a*C = c*C, a C on left and c*c on right 3*a*O = b*O+2*c*O 3*a*O on left b*O + 2*c*O on right. 3. Now let C=1, Cd=2 and O=3 it is just alphabetical the elements and i give them 1 2 3. If there was Al there it be 1 and C will be 2. Just the way i set it up. now the system becomes 2*a = 2*b, a = c, 9*a = 3*b+6*c 4. Solve it for each variable. By substitution or elimination. If you know how. Anyhoo assumes you did a = c, b = c, c = c choose 1 for c and you get a=1 b =1 and c =1 aCdCO3(s) → bCdO(s) + cCO2(g) CdCO3(s) → CdO(s) + CO2(g) It was already balanced

let me try 2 C(s) + H2(g) + O2(g) → C2H6O(s) 1. use letters as coefficients for each molecule I like to make them lower case cuzz there is almost always a C and dont get confused with coefficent c. aC(s) + bH2(g) + cO2(g) → dC2H6O(s) ^ ^ ^ ^ 2. there are 3 atoms so there will be 3 equations. a*C=d*C*2, b*H*2=d*H*6, c*O=d*O 3. turn the atoms C H O into numbers by alpha numeric order. C=1, H=2, O=3. I find it just makes it easier a = 2*d, 4*b = 12*d, 3*c = 3*d 4. solve for each variable aka coefficient. by substitution or elimination. a = 2*d, b = 3*d, c = d, d = d 5. find the variable that equals itself and make it 1. Like d=d so make it d=1 and just evaluate the rest of them. d = 1, a = 2, b = 3, c = 1 6. get your equation with the coefficients from step 1. and plug in the above numbers. aC(s) + bH2(g) + cO2(g) → dC2H6O(s) 2C(s) + 3H2(g) + O2(g) → C2H6O(s)

number 2 is a combustion reaction cuzz i cuzz it involves O2 I think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as for the type if something combine with O2 then it is combustion. As for the rest idk lol. Look for a table for type of reaction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know it lol. Find a table it should be on a text book or online.
