State briefly the similarities and differences between the theories of Arrhenius and Bronsted-Lowry

The similarities are with the acids. Both have H+ as acids (proton donor for BL theory) The difference is in the bases. Arrhenius had only OH- as a base. BL theory has any proton acceptor.

Arrhenius acids and bases are defined as substances that increase the [H+] and [OH-] concentrations when in solution. The Bronsted-Lowry definition of an acid is a proton donor, the definition of a Bronsted Lowry base is a proton acceptor.
