Two trains on separate tracks move toward each other. Train 1 has a speed of 108 km/h; train 2 a speed of 68.0 km/h. Train 2 blows its horn, emitting a frequency of 500 Hz. What is the frequency heard by the engineer on train 1?

spped of sound in air = 340 m/s?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

speed*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've used the equation \[fo=fs((v+vo)(v-vs))\] but the answer is not coming out right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

speed of sound in air = 345m/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually its (V + Vo)/(V - Vs)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, that's what I've been doing. I had a typo in the post.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Check ur signs of velocities once again n then calculate again.. coz formula is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was the signs

Ur welcome
