OpenStudy (anonymous):

Explain what each quantum number in a quantum number set tells you about the electron. Compare and contrast the locations and properties of two electrons within an atom that have the quantum number sets (3, 2, -1, +½) and (3, 1, -1, +½).

OpenStudy (abb0t):

The first number is the principle quantum number and tells you the energy level of the electron. The second number is the orbital quantum number and tells you the orbital angular momentum of the electron. The third number is the magnetic quantum number and tells you the configuration of the orbit given a specific orbital angular momentum. The fourth number is the spin of the electron (up or down) - postive for up, negative for down as you might already know this.
