Consider the phase change H2O(l) → H2O(g). This equation describes the phase change from liquid water to steam. Think about the heat flow that is necessary for this change to take place. What do you predict about the process? will it be endothermic or exothermic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ENDOTHERMIC means that something takes in energy (heat) from its environment. For example, when an ice cube melts if feels cold because it is taking heat from your hand and using it to melt. EXOTHERMIC means that it releases energy to the environment, Think explosion. When you see fireworks, the explosion releases heat and makes light that you see. The same is true of fire. It is exothermic because it releases heat.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is the answer exothermic? cause its releasing heat into the air through steam.

thomaster (thomaster):

To make steam you have to heat up water, so you put energy in it. This means that the reaction is endothermic.
