Work and heat 24 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can heat be completely turned into work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, there will always be some heat lost in conversion whether big or small, there will always be losses.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Forbidden by the 2nd law of thermodynamics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no because heat is a third grade energy it can't be completely converted into work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That would imply perfect efficiency, which is impossible, as stated by the Kevin-Planck statement. Even the Carnot Cycle, which is the model for the ideal heat engine that does not include entropy, does not have 100% efficiency
