i gave this as my answer But if A represents P(event A) and similarly for B, you have (1/2 * 1/2 + 1/2 * 1/2)^2 = (1/4 + 1/4)^2 = (1/2)^2 = 1/4 1/2p(A) + 1/2(p(B)) = (1/2*1/2 + 1/2*1/2) = .25 + .25 = .5 For part (b): Roll one of the cubes. The top facing number will be either from {1 5 6} or {2 3 4} - it doesn't matter which. Then you want the other one to have its top face come from the other trio of numbers, so P(success) = 3/6 = 1/2

whats wrong with the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

especially for part a

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

statistics problem...unfortunately, I'm taking that class next semester. sorry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A is the event of rolling a {2,3,4}, not 1/2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part B is right, but it would be slightly easier if you had done part A right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A does not represent the probability for event A. A is only event A. (1/2 A + 1/2 B) represents the probability for rolling one of the number cubes. So then (1/2 A + 1/2 B)^2 is the probability for rolling two number cubes.
