Help me out? The Ka value for acetic acid, CH3COOH(aq), is 1.8× 10–5. Calculate the pH of a 1.60 M acetic acid solution.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

First thing is to write the reaction of acetic acid with water and the expression of its acidity constant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't even know how to begin that, really. Can you help me out? Sorry.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

it's puzzling that they would ask you a weak acid question before they taught you how to write a chemical equation.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Just use your textbook and find how to write the reaction of acetic acid with water.

OpenStudy (jfraser):

^it doesn't even have to be acetic acid, if you remember that all acids behave almost identically the same way in water.
