2Mg(s) + O2 --> 2MgO How many moles of oxygen would be required to completely react with 46 grams of magnesium?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First find the number of Mg in mol. The number of oxygen required is one-half of the number of Mg. Need me to spell it out more?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

can you spell it out, please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The number of Mg (in mol) = (mass of Mg) / (formula weight of Mg) The formula weight is just the mass of one mol of Mg atoms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the number of Mg atoms is approx. 46 grams / 24.3 grams per mol the number of O2 molecules is one-half of the number of Mg atoms.
