Solve for x : [x]^3 - 2[x] + 1 = 0 ([.] is the greatest integer function)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let [x]=t so t comes out to be 1 and some other 2 roots [x]=1 so 1<x<2 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Aperogalics - x can also take '1' :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya i just type it but think it is not typed ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its cubic equation bro, not quadratic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes by trial [x]= 1 is solution. Diving the poly by [x]-1(factor), we get : \[[x]^{2} + [x] - 1\] which doesnt have any integral solution Hence the solution of the poly is : 1\[\le x < 2\]

aww.. thanx <3

Welcome :)
