What is a reducing agent, and how would you identify it in a chemical reaction?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

reducing agent is a substance which donates electron or H atom in reaction

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

reducing agent will have increased oxidation state in product compared to in the reactant side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reducing agent is a compound which electrons to the product side and so in the reactant side the reduced elements has its oxidation state is less than that of the product side. Leo means ger ie... Loses electrons oxidation and Gains electrons reduction

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

do you know the way o remember this easily

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

@leena1996

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@chmvijay Ya the Leo means ger is the best way to remember that.......also OIL is RIG is famous.. aka.. Oxidation is losing and Reduction is Gaining Or Leo means ger aka Losing electrons Oxidation and Gaining electrons Reduction....

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yaaa ur right LEO....makes sound GER!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@chmvijay ya that can be changed as per your preference

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what other stuff :)you can say :)
