I don't know what you're trying to do.
@nincompoop the Element Ir = e + what?
could you elaborate what your question is asking? how many electrons does element Iridium have? well in nature, elements are neutral, this means that the number of protons and electrons are equal. look at your periodic table and see how many protons it has, then use that as a reference to indicate how many electrons.
As shown on the periodic table, it looks like 192 Ir 77 Now what makes that result if one electron is added @nincompoop
Iridium has 77 protons therefore it has 77 electrons the amu is 192 atomic weight = protons + neutrons the + charge indicates that one electron is removed this is why there's more protons (+) than electrons (-). if 1 electron is removed then you would have: \[_{77}^{192}Ir^+=76e^-\]
now if it were: \[_{77}^{192} Ir^-=78e^-\]
do you understand @chemcalc ?
yes @nincompoop
let me test what you've learned. how many electrons does an iridium have when: \[_{77}^{192}Ir^{+2}\] and when: \[_{77}^{192}Ir^{-4}\]
75e 81e @nincompoop
super! learn something more: ISOELECTRIC this means that Iridium is now isoelectric (the same number of electrons/configuration) as Rhenium (Re) when its electron is 75, and isoelectric as Thallium (Tl) when its electron is 81.
Wow, thank you ! @nincompoop
