The generalized equation A + B → AB represents a __________ reaction?

thomaster (thomaster):

A + B → AB is a synthesis reaction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain how?

thomaster (thomaster):

Two or more (simple) compounds combine to form a more complicated one. That's called synthesis.

thomaster (thomaster):

If there were 3 compounds to combine it would be A + B + C → ABC

thomaster (thomaster):

@Faith* Do you understand now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohok thank you

OpenStudy (jfraser):

there are 5 common classes or types of reactions that appear most frequently in introductory chemistry. You should learn the general format of these 5 reactions so you can recognize them on sight.

thomaster (thomaster):

@JFraser I learned 6 :P but i guess acid-base reactions could be considered a double displacement so it leaves 5 :)

OpenStudy (jfraser):

@thomaster you're corect, but A-B reactions are a specific subset of D-D reactions, in my book. call it 5.5 classes, and we're good ;-)
