What is the ground state electron configuration for Cr^3+? When it's + does mean it loses or gains electrons? Cr has 24 electrons but does it become 27 because of the +3?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You're looking at electrons, not protons. \(Cr\) has 6 electrons in it's valence shell. Remember that the "s" sub-shell electrons are lost first.

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10 5p6 6s2 4f14 5d10 6p6 7s2 5f14 6d107p6 6f14 7d10 7f14 so I have this... apparently I add until i get 21 which stops at 3d^10 so the answer is [AR] 3d^3
