Ferrous or ferric... which is chemically more reactive..why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Paramagnetic properties refer to chemical reactivity? Lyk if an elemnt or an ion hv paramagnetic properties wil it b chemically reactive?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Draw their electron configuration, iron has 8 total electrons, 2 in it's s-orbital, and 6 in it's d-subshell. +2 means it has 6 +3 means it has 5

OpenStudy (abb0t):

uneven distribution for \(Fe^{2+}\) hence, it's more likely to be reactive to reduce uneven distribution of electrons.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

But they are both relatively stable. Again, it really depends on the reactants. More reactive as \(Fe^{2+}\) in oxygen.

Ok I get it thanx
