Which problems from which sheet?
umm all of them pleazz
Ok. Let's start with the first sheet.
You need to be careful when comparing areas. Here's an example. If you have a square with side 2, what is its area?
4
Now if you have a square with twice the side, 4, what is its area?
8
wat r u doing problem 29?
No. Area of square = side squared
16
I'm giving you a background explanation for problem 28.
oh
Correct. Square with Side 2, area 4 Side 4, area 16 When the side went from 2 to 4, the side became 2 times bigger. The area went from 4 to 16 and became 4 times bigger.
Now if the side of the square becomes 3 times the original side. The side was 2. Now the side becomes 6. What is the area of the square?
12?
No. Area is not side times 2, it's side squared 6^2 = 36
oh yeahh....so its 36%?
We're not dealing with percentages yet. Just look at numbers below. When the side goes from 2 to 6, the side became 3 times bigger. The area goes from 4 to 36. How much bigger did the area become? Square with Side 2, area 4 Side 6, area 36
36 is how many times 4?
9
Right. So if you incerase the side by 3, you increse the area by 3^2 = 9 times. The same happens in problem 28. If the radius is 3 times smaller, the area id 9 times smaller.
Area of a circle with radius 3: A = (p)ir^2 = (pi)*3^2 = (pi)*9 = 9(pi) Area of circle with radius 1: A = (pi)r^2 = (pi)*1^2 = (pi)*1 = pi Area of pi is 9 times smaller than area of 9(pi)
For radius 1, A = pi = 3.14 For radius 3, A = 9(pi) = 9*3.14 = 28.26 3.14 is what percentage of 28.26?
@Ammarah Are you still there?
yess
so u dividee
Do you understand problem 28 so far?
3.14/28.26 * 100 will give yout he percentage
okkk next prob...
29. You got the area correct, 2916 yd^2
Now you also need the perimeter.
yes
The feet of fencing needed is the perimeter. You have a square with 4 sides of 54 yd. What is the perimeter?
P=2l +2w
216
Yes, that wroks, but you can make it simpler since this is a square with all 4 sides equal, so P = 4s = 4 * 54 yd = 216 yd
kk so those two are the answers?!
There is one more step. The question asks for feet of fencing not yards of fencing, so you need to convert yards into feet.
There are 3 feet in each yard. How many feet is 216 yd?
@Ammarah If you want to go through all these problems, you need to keep going bec I'm leaving in about 30 minutes.
ohh idk how many feet..
pleasee stay..
216 divide by 3
72
1 yard = 3 feet. Ok?
72????
i already posted the answer...@mathstudent55 r u there
@mathstudent55
No, it's not 72. Answer my questions quckly. 1 yd = 3 ft, right?
2 yd = 6 ft 3 yd = 9 ft For every amount of yards in a length, there are more feet in that length. You multiply yards by 3 to get feet. Don't divide by 3.
ohhkkk
648
648 ft of fencing. Correct. Next problem
For 30. Can you write the length and width in terms of 20, 24 and x?
L = ? W = ?
L=20 w=24
Maybe L = 24 in. W = 20 in. That is the length and width of the glass pane without the frame. The frame is x inches wide all around. What are the length and width of the window (including the frame)?
20+2x+24+2x??
L = 24 + 2x W = 20 + 2x
yes thats wat i meant
What is the perimeter of the window using the length and width I just wrote?
P = 2L + 2W
8x+88
i have to do something right now...please tell me if what u get for the problems and i will review themmm
8x + 88 = 8 2/3 ft 8 2/3 ft * 12 = 104 in. 8x + 88 = 104 8x = 16 x = 2 This is the answer for 30.
31. |dw:1367810708819:dw| x = 3.5 2x = 7 3.5 in. and 7 in.
