Draw the Lewis Dot structure for RbIO2

OpenStudy (nottim):

Well, what do the Lewis Dot Structure for Rb, I and O look like individually?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rb has 1 valence electron. Iodine has 7 valence electrons. Oxygen has 6 valence electrons.

OpenStudy (nottim):

Now, what about a structure of Rb and I together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Iodine would end up having 8 valence because Rubidium gives away its electron since it's a metal

OpenStudy (nottim):

and you know how to draw that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1367910448545:dw| omg what a terrible drawing, but it's supposed to have 8 valence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

iodine*

OpenStudy (nottim):

And now what about 02 (by itself)?

OpenStudy (nottim):

Ok. Now combine the 2? You able to do that?
