#1: Which of the following involves a colligative property? A. pouring salt on an icy sidewalk to make it free of ice B. heating a pure solvent to boiling C. transferring some of a concentrated solution into a dilute solution D. bringing a carbonated beverage to room temperature **my answer: A is that right? @aaronq :)
#2: Which of the following factors affects the boiling point of a solution? A. molar amount of solute B. beginning concentration of solvent C. chemical composition of solute D. type of container **my answer: A is that right? :)
yep!
for both
#3: A solution has a higher boiling point than its associated pure solvent does. What is this property of the solution called? A. freezing-point depression B. boiling-point elevation C. vapor-pressure lowering D. boiling-point depression **my answer: B. boiling-point elevation is that right? :)
yes its correct!
#4: Which of the following statements best describes why a solution of 6.00 g of Ca(NO3)2 in 30.0 g of water has a greater boiling-point elevation than a solution of 3.00 g of Ca(NO3)2 in 60.0 g of water? A. The solution with more moles of Ca(NO3)2 will have the lower boiling point. B. The solution with fewer moles of Ca(NO3)2 will have the higher boiling point. C. The solution with the higher molality will have the higher boiling point. D. The solution with the lower molality will have the higher boiling point. **my answer; C not too sure... is it right? :)
#5: You have two solutions. One is made of 100.0 g of methanol in 500.0 g of water. The other has 200.0 g of methanol in 500.0 g of water. Which of the following statements best describes which of these two solutions will have the smaller freezing-point depression? A. the solution of 100 g of methanol in 500 g of water, because it has fewer moles of methanol B. the solution of 200 g of methanol in 500 g of water, because it has fewer moles of methanol C. the solution of 100 g of methanol in 500 g of water, because it has more moles of methanol D. the solution of 200 g of methanol in 500 g of water, because it has more moles of methanol ***my answer: A is that correct? :)
#4 is good
ooh!! yay :) so far! haha crossing my fingers for #5! :)
haha wow, all correct ! good jerb ! someones been paying attention !
i gotta go help my friend's brother with math, :( he's in grade 12 and got accepted to college for chemical engineering but he's terrible at math lol
hehee yayyy!! :) thanks!!!! :) hopefully chem will get easier for me!! :) the ones with equations are still harder for me tho :( hahah oaky!!! lol do u have to know math for chem engineering?
it gets easier with practice! if you study chem later you'll see how easy this stuff really is :P it's all math, don't worry, it's all practice! haha chemical engineering is all math, it's basically physical chemistry, like thermodynamics haha
okay! thanks :) gotta keep practicing! and hopefully they'll be easier soon enough!! :) ohhh i see :P lol math can be fun... i said can lol :P but most of the time it's like scrambling your brain up ;P and i hope my math gets better soon as well!! :) i understand some topics like really well and others are kinda like omg get me out of here! haha :P practice will help!! hehehe thanks again @aaronq :)
yeah! practice is where it's at :) no problem!
haha i'll keep practicing then!! see ya later :)
