Why is Aluminium oxide insoluble even though it is an ionic compound?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

bcoz the solubility of any compound depends on hydration energy of ionic compounds :) if hydration energy is greater than the lattice energy of crystal it will dissolve other wise it wont :) in this case lattice energy is higher than the hydration or salvation energy hence not soluble
