What volume of 6.0 M HCL do you need to make 230 mL of 2.0 M HCl?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried using M1V1=M2V2 but I realized it was not the right choice of equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right, but are moles relevant in this problem? sorry it's been a while since this unit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would you share the numbers you plug in, i mean, the steps and the answer you got?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still have nothing, and I understand the video but it didn't go over this type of problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind, my original equation was correct. The volume of 6 M HCl needed is 76.67 mL. I thought this was wrong because it is less than 230 mL, but I forgot that there is also water in the final solution.

OpenStudy (freethinker):

\[6.0\times x=2.0 \times 230\]\[6.0x=460\]\[x=77.6\]\[x=77; 2 sigfig\]

OpenStudy (freethinker):

sorry 76.6 not 77.6 2 sigfigs: 77
