How can I estimate the effective atomic number for the ground state and first excited level of an optical electron in Li? The longest wavelength spectral line seen in absorption in the spectrum of Li is at 670.8 nm. The ionisation potential of Li is 5.39 eV.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Is this for quantum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, it is.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Isn't it \(\large E = -\frac{ke^2}{2a_0} \frac{Z^2}{n^2}\)

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Actually, I don't know. But I remember seeing similar type questions on my exam. Try posting this in the physics section.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will do. Thanks.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

But it's very similar to working with Hydrogen since they are both single-electron iions. Best of luck.
