What is the charge for Sulfur(S)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2-

OpenStudy (xanthe):

Is this the same for Se?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For sulfur, it is 2- because it accepts 2 electrons during reactions... NB:Sulfur as an atom does not have a charge..

The periodic table can help you with this..... eg. Sodium is in group 1 of the periodic table so this means that it has 1 electron in its outermost shell (which it would easily give out during reactions) so has a charge of 1+
