Are ionic and covalent molecules soluble in water?
lots of ionic substances are soluble in water, and a lot aren't. some covalent molecules are soluble in water, but even more of them are not. there's no general rule either way
all ionic molecules are soluble in water because they dissociates into component ions in water. due to the interaction of partial charges of water with charges on ions, the anions and cations get attracted to the partial negative and positive charge respectively. Covalent compound that are soluble in what must have Hydrogen bonds and dipole-dipole forces. Hope this also helps
^NOT all ionic substances are soluble in water. Ionic compounds made of silver, mercury, or lead ions are rarely soluble. Phosphates are rarely soluble, transition metal hydroxides are insoluble (yes a tiny fraction of them do dissolve, but much less than 1g per 100mL qualifies as insoluble in most cases)
