PLS FRIENDS I NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY FOR MY ASSIGNMENT. CAN SOMEBODY HELP?

OpenStudy (rane):

@thomaster can u pls help!!! :)

thomaster (thomaster):

what's the problem?

OpenStudy (rane):

purpose of sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate in detergents

thomaster (thomaster):

it's a surfactant, which means it lowers the surface-/interfacial tension of liquids.

OpenStudy (rane):

can u be more pacific pls...... i mean an explanation of why it is used in dish washing detergents?

thomaster (thomaster):

Do you now what a micelle is?

OpenStudy (rane):

yes

thomaster (thomaster):

okey sodiuumdodecylbenzene sulfonate is a hydrocarbon sufractant. It's amphiphile which means it has a polar and an apolar side. Thus it forms a micelle around filth and dissolves it. So it works like soap.

OpenStudy (rane):

thank u

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

but the disadvantages of these chemicals are they are not bio degradable :)

OpenStudy (rane):

thank u too
