This one has me pretty stumped too. The numbers I keep getting aren't any of the choices. The average hourly wage of employees of a certain company is $11.14. Assume the variable is normally distributed. If the standard deviation is $3.09, find the probability that a randomly selected employee earns less than $9.44.

OpenStudy (phi):

what is the "z score" of 9.44 ? (it will be negative because it is smaller than the average)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi would i use the formula data value - mean / standard deviation? I get 9.44 - 11.14 / 3.09 which is -.55

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. now you need a table that gives you the percent between -inf to -0.55 1 - (-infty to +0.55)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15.8% of $11.14? which is 1.76? @phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait that might be wrong
