log 8 base 32

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

\[\large \log _{32}8=x\]

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

You can take the common base of 2 for solving this, so \[\large \frac{ \log _{\color{green}{2}}8 }{ \log _{\color{green}{2}}32 }\] so \[\large \frac{ \log _{\color{green}{2}}(\color{green}{2}^{3}) }{ \log _{\color{green}{2}}(\color{green}{2}^{5}) }\] and lecause the log base and the base of the exponential are the same number, you can cancel them out, that leaves you with \[\large \frac{ \log _{2}2^{\color{fuchsia}3} }{ \log _{2}2^{\color{fuchsia}5} }\] the highlighted exponents become your fraction, and your answer.
