I need major help on these links it is an important part of my grade please help me understand this topic thanks :) http://vtok.me/pic/x99UDUS7.jpg http://vtok.me/pic/TGs77kQt.jpg http://vtok.me/pic/2b9tB9Zj.jpg http://vtok.me/pic/kiyhjaX3.jpg
Picture one they are saying the side view is your base
They are also giving you clue that you have divide it into two rectangles and one right triangle so draw the side on a piece of paper and see how you can divide it into these 3 shapes. Hint draw lines from the vertices
@eSpeX me and my other classmate here (who posted the question) needs help
It is volume problems
Which problem are you on and what part is giving you difficulty?
At the moment 16 and 17 are giving me difficulties.
yea me 2
Okay, looking at 16, they are asking for the volume of this triangular prism. Given the information that you have, how would you suggest approaching this problem?
I think we are supposed to look at a side view like the example
well starting with this i would say you would make a formula V=bh or in this case V= 1/2 bhw
Yes
Exactly, now how can you find the height of the triangle of the base?
A hint, @Itrytohelpu was on the right path by looking at the shape in a different orientation.
I think we may look at the side with 5ft and 13 ft, which is the base
Right, if you rotate the shape you get a triangle that looks like this: |dw:1369871433786:dw|
Oh yes, the 12 ft is there because on the other side it says 12 feet and it is the exact length.
Precisely. Now what do you get for the volume?
So far, you get 780 ft I think, but you have to multiply it by \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\]
What numbers did you use to get that value?
I used the three numbers in the triangle, 12ft, 13ft, and 5ft.
I multiplied them together
and by half
Once rotated, your prism looks like this: |dw:1369871743915:dw|
ohhh so basically 13 is representing the hypotenuse and the length is 8
Yes!
so now instead its going to be V=1/2 (12) (8) (5)
I think that may work
If you do those calculations you get 240 ft \[^{3}\]
Cubed
Excellent work.
Is that the final answer to #16?
Indeed.
Ok I am moving on to 17 now.
so the base of the figure in 17 is 85 cm right.......so the height is 180 cm but on the top its a triangle and the height of the triangle is 25cm......ummm am i right?
The image is difficult for me to see, can you draw it?
Or maybe I can. Is this what is shown?|dw:1369872797529:dw|
