Which of the following is an example of a decomposition reaction? HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq) arrow H2O (l) + NaCl (aq) Mg (s) + 2H2O (l) arrow Mg(OH)2 (aq) + H2 (g) H2CO3 (aq) arrow H2O (l) + CO2 (g) Pb(NO3)2 (s) + 2NaI (aq) arrow PbI2 (s) + 2NaNO3 (aq)
Decomposition has a general form of AB \(\to\) A + B
so the third one?
yes :)
Thanks! can you help me with this one too please :) Which of the following describes the correct net ionic equation for the reaction of copper (II) chloride solution with silver nitrate solution? CuCl2 (aq) + AgNO3 (aq) arrow Cu(NO3)2 (aq) + AgCl (s) CuCl2 (aq) + 2AgNO3 (aq) arrow Cu(NO3)2 (aq) + 2AgCl (s) Cu2+ (aq) + 2Cl- (aq) + 2Ag+ (aq) + 2NO3- (aq) arrow Cu2+ (aq) + 2NO32- (aq) + 2AgCl (s) 2Cl- (aq) + 2Ag+ (aq) arrow 2AgCl (s)
A is the unbalanced molecular equation B is the balanced molecular equation C is the total ionic equation D is the net ionic equation \(\Huge\ddot\smile\)
thank you thomaster! I was actually about to post this question up on openstudy! :) so the answer is D. Alright, i'll take your word for it!
Yes you can see this because in A and B there are no ions. in C there are ions but also spectator ions (the ions that are on both side of the arrow). In D, the spectator ions are canceled, this is called the net ionic equation \(\Huge\ddot\smile\)
Sweet! Thank you!
