find the degree of each polynomial 9p-9q-9p3-9q2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The degree of a polynomial is equal to the highest value of a variable exponent. So look at the equation and look at the exponents, pick the highest one.

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Would it also represent a multiplicity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umm, multiplicity should refer to how many times the given root is used. IE (x-2)(x-2)=0 has root 2 of multiplicity 2. But maybe there is a different meaning?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Kyler1099 That is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soo I come up with the answer as 7 am i correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, how did you get 7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I added all the degrees together

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

.... :| I don't think you can add teh degree of "q" and of "p together xD they're two separate variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't add anything. You just look at what is the highest power once you have simplified.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I think I got it now thank you :)
