Area of Square2 is equal to the sum of the area of Square 1 and the area of Square3

pythagoras says for a right triangle with sides a,b and hypotenuse c: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 notice that a^2 is the formula for the area of a square that has a side=a same for b^2, and c^2 in other words, you can think of this formula as saying the area of the squares with side a and side b will add up to the area of the square with side c

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 is only true for a right triangle.

I WAS LOOKING AT IT WRONG THIS WHOLE TIME!!! Thinking that the area was what I needed but I always get area and perimeter mixed up! Haha, sorry, I understand it now:) thank you! If I need help with another can you help me?

the answer has nothing to do with perimeter (sum of the length of the sides ) it is *only area* (length*width of a rectangle, or just side*side for a square -- because the sides are equal) to answer: which square is on the hypotenuse? Its area will be the sum of the squares on the other two sides.
