X^(5/3) = 32 Solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, 2^5 is 32, so what's 2^3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait is that the answer? o.O

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Well, what is the cube root of 8? If you then raise that number to the 5th power, do you get 32?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay i got it thanks! :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If you wanted to do this a different way, \[x^{5/3} = 32\]Take log base 2 of both sides \[\frac{5}{3}*\log_2 x = \log_2 32 = 5\]Multiply both sides by 3/5 to move the fraction \[\log_2 x = 3\]Take the anti-log base 2 \[x=2^3 = 8\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^that was what i was looking for thanks

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

you're welcome!
