The cooling curve below represents the cooling of a sample of gas. According to the cooling curve, what phase(s) would you expect to observe when the substance is at a temperature of 375 Kelvin?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. gas b. liquid c. solid and liquid d. liquid and gas

OpenStudy (aaronq):

can you label the cooling curve?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

The sample started out as a gas. The plateau at 375K represents pa phase change.

NoelGreco is right. two flat surfaces correspond to two phase changes. this means the substance should be a gas which turns into a liquid and then in a solid. at 375k, the substance in gaseous form turns into liquid. we may say that both gas and liquid are present there till the point where all gas turned in a solid and again the slope appeared.
