A forgetful soul leaves his 100-watt porch light on overnight for 100 days each year. It is on for an additional 11.3 hours each time and the cost of electricity is 10.0 cents/kW-hr. The amount of additional electrical energy he uses = ___ and the total amount of additional money he must pay each year = $____.
Welcome to open study! :)
@Jhannybean thanks so much! could you help me with my problem?
cost of electricity = 10.0 cents/kW-hr (boy, I wish!) 100 watts on for 1 hour = 100 watt-hr 1000 watts on for 1 hour = 1000 watt-hr aka 1 kW-hr (1 kW = 1000 W) 1 watt on for 100 hours = 100 watt-hr 100 watts on for 11.3 hours = 11.3*100 = 1130 watt hours = 1.13 kw hr 10.0 cents = $0.100
@whpalmer4 thanks so much but I already entered that blank (for additional money) as 10.8 and it said that was right
haha a forgetful soul
