Do ionic compounds conduct electricity as: 1. Solids? 2. Liquids? 3. Aqueous solutions (when the ionic compounds are dissolved in water)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's No, Yes, Yes

thomaster (thomaster):

That's correct :) Solic ionic compounds don't conduct electricity. In liquids and aqueous solutions, the ions are free to move and can conduct an electrical current :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you, could you help me with one other about this

thomaster (thomaster):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. Why do you think ionic compounds are not able to conduct electricity as solids, even though they can as liquids and in solution?

thomaster (thomaster):

because the ions are not free to move to the electrodes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks love

thomaster (thomaster):

no problem \(\huge ツ\)
