To begin a problem like this, it's useful to factor out any factors that appear in all the terms. in this example, all the terms have an x, so we can factor that out and get: \[x(x^2 -x -12)\] From here, we know that 0 is a root of the equation. Now, factor the second piece. I'll get you started, and if you'd like some more help let me know: \[(x)(x+?)(x-?)\] You're looking for two terms that multiply to give -12 but add to get -1.
