i looked everywhere in my book for this and cannot find it...Which of the following is a characteristic of thin layer chromatography? A. Aluminum foil dipped in ether is used as a carrier metal for separating out volatiles. B. A capillary column with a solvent is used in conjunction with a flame ionizer. C. A coated sheet placed in solvent is used to separate out compounds. D. A gas column is used to separate out compounds from a mixture.

Thin layer chromatography is performed on a sheet of glass, plastic, or aluminium foil, which is coated with a thin layer of adsorbent material, usually silica gel, aluminium oxide, or cellulose (blotter paper). After the sample has been applied on the plate, a solvent or solvent mixture (known as the mobile phase) is drawn up the plate via capillary action. Because different analytes ascend the TLC plate at different rates, separation is achieved. therefore only option C fits the definition
