\(\sf\Large (3a^3-7a^2+a)-(6a^3-4a^2-8)\)
what is \(\sf\Large 3a^3-6a^3\) ??
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
ok so its 3a
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
i think
thomaster (thomaster):
no \(\sf\Large 3a^3-6a^3=-3a^3\)
because 3-6 = -3, the exponent stays the same
Can you do \(\sf\Large -7a^2-4a^2~?\)

11a^2
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
-11a^2
thomaster (thomaster):
sorry you are right but i made a mistake :P
It's actually \(\sf\Large -7a^2--4a^2~?\) because of the - before the parenthesis
thomaster (thomaster):
--4a^2 = +4a^2
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
oooo ok

So you understand that \(\sf\Large -7a^2--4a^2=-3a^2\) right?
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
yes
thomaster (thomaster):
Oke and the last step
what happens when you subtract -8 from a?
So \(\large\sf a -- 8\)
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
-8a
thomaster (thomaster):
No that would be multiplying :P
you can't subtract -8 from a so it will just be a+8 (because --8= +8)
So what is the answer?

ok
thomaster (thomaster):
So do you know what the answer is now?
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
um i think its d
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
-3a3-3a2+a+8
thomaster (thomaster):
Yes that's correct :) \(\Large -3a^3-3a^2+a+8\)

thomaster (thomaster):
sure
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
thomaster (thomaster):
\(\Large (7m-8)^2=(7m-8)(7m-8)\)
OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):
so the foil method
