HELLLPPPPP MEDAL FAN !! What is the approximate volume of a cone with a height of 5 meters and base radius of 6 meters? Use 3.14 for pi http://learn.flvs.net/webdav/assessment_images/educator_math2/v9/07_PP_12_093.gif http://learn.flvs.net/webdav/assessment_images/educator_math2/v9/07_PP_12_094.gif http://learn.flvs.net/webdav/assessment_images/educator_math2/v9/07_PP_12_095.gif

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well the formula for volume of a cone is \[V = \frac{ 1 }{ 3 } \pi r^2 h\] so plug in your numbers and solve for 'V'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wahh? i confuzzled

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Lol okay...the question wants you to find the volume of a cone with radius 6 and height of 5...and to use 3.14 for pi....so with the equation I wrote above...and putting these numbers in we get... \[V = \frac{ 1 }{ 3 } \times 3.14 \times 6^2 \times 5\] and solve that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do the 1/3 x 3.14

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Here it might be easier if I write it as \[V = \frac{ \pi r^2 h }{ 3 }\] so \[V = \frac{ 3.14 \times 6^2 \times 5 }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

erm i got 559.70 i did it so wrong

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Hmm let's do it out \[V = \frac{ 3.14 \times 6^2 \times 5 }{ 3 }\] \[V = \frac{ 3.14 \times 36 \times 5 }{ 3 }\] \[V = \frac{ 565.2 }{ 3 }\] \[V = 188.4\] Did that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All except how to multiply 3.14x36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get you got 36 by squaring 6 (6x6) i just dont know how to multiply pi

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well I just did it out on paper really....because we are only using 3.14 for pi...not the actual value of pi *which we don't know entirely but still* |dw:1373567647109:dw|

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Lol crappy drawing but still :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didnt get a drawing

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

|dw:1373567944949:dw| Still nothing? wow first time that happened

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's there now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay i get it now as far as the pi multiplcation

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

perfect :) I hope it makes sense :) so to finish that for your equation *since that is just 3.14 times 36... you multiply the 113.04 times 5 to finish what's in the numerator... This comes out to 565.2 Now the only thing left to do is divide that 565.2 by the 3 that is in the denominator... That's where I got the 188.4 from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

purrfect thanks for your help for real!!!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

No problem Ryleigh :) *remember you from your old account lol*
