As a 2.0-kg block travels around a 0.50-m radius circle it has an angular speed of 12 rad/s.The circle is parallel to the xy plane and is centered on the z axis, 0.75 m from the origin. The magnitude of its angular momentum around the origin is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I=mr^2 : (2)(.5)^2 =.5 L=IW = .5(12)=6 , but the answer was 11 !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@theEric , can you help me Plz ?

OpenStudy (theeric):

I don't see the problem. I might be missing something, but I agree with you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the correct answer was 11 ! there is somethig wrong :D

OpenStudy (theeric):

Maybe some other people will have input! Otherwise, maybe the answer was written incorrectly. Textbooks do that sometimes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok , However thank you :)

OpenStudy (theeric):

Not a problem! Good luck!

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

The answer is 10.8 kg.m².s-1 You have calculated the angular momentum about the centre of the circle, and the problem asks you to calculate it about the origin.

OpenStudy (theeric):

Well, I should have read it better! That would explain why it gave the information about it in the plane! I'm going to come back later and try to attain this answer for myself!
