what do you know about the angles at point M ?
Thats all the information i have, and they would be equal.
the angles at M are "vertical angles" and are equal... they tell you one of the angles is 42ยบ if we call the vertical angle V, we have V+42 + 3rd angle= 180 both triangles have V + 42 + 3rd angle = 180 what can you say about the 3rd angle ?
I honestly dont understand.
yes, that is confusing. How about this: if 2 angles in a triangle are = to 2 angles in the other triangle, the 3rd angles are also = say the 3 angles are a,b,c so we can say a+b+c= 180 solve for c to find the 3rd angle is c = 180-(a+b) in other words if we had know two of the angles are a and b, the 3rd angle must also be equal
but we dont know 2 angles, we know 1.
so they arent similar?
@phi
OOOOHH! I see. Since the verticle angles are congruent, and the other two angles are congruent, then the third must also.
we know 42 in both triangles we know the vertical angles are =
