Log problem help, writing it below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The top right says -3log(base of 2)z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and I think it's false because I got |dw:1374523315751:dw|

@vinnv226

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So the difference between the suggest answer, and what you came up with, is the square on the y?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\large \frac{1}{2}\log_2(y) \qquad=\qquad \log_2(y^{1/2}) \qquad=\qquad \log_2(\sqrt y)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pretty much yeah i got sqrt"y^2" which simplifies to y, want 2 make sure i got it right tho/see what i did wrong if i got it wrong. I'm supposed to state it the answer provided is true, and it not show how to get the right answer,

zepdrix (zepdrix):

I'm not sure where your y^2 is coming from :O hmm

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Wait, no, the answer looks correct. It looks true.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

@Loujoelou where did y^2 come from? It should only be sqrt(y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm now I'm thinking that the answer they gave is right. Yeah I just messed up on the 1/2log2 y. I accidentally used its base of 2 as the y^2 lol :D

zepdrix (zepdrix):

ah :) heh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thx a ton to both of u! :)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

No prob, good job finding your mistake.
