What value(s) must be excluded from solutions for this equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 2 }{ x^2 - 1} = \frac{ 3 }{ x + 1 } + \frac{ 4 }{ x - 1 }\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what values make bad zeroes appear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x \neq \pm1\] This is because no denominator can be zero and the right side matches what i stated above. The right might not be so evident but if you factor the denominator on the right it becomes (x+1)(x-1) so the above statement is same for this \[x \neq \pm1\]

Ohhh ok, thanks :)
