How would one divide two polynomials of the same order like: \[\frac{ x^3 + 4x }{ x^3 + 5x^2 + 8x + 4 }\]

you will evidently get 1 and a remainder

easy trick is to make the one up top by adding and subtracting what you need to give you the one you know you will get

\[\frac{ x^3 + 4x }{ x^3 + 5x^2 + 8x + 4 }\]\[=\frac{x^3+5x^2+8x+4-5x^2-4x-4}{x^3+5x^2+8x+4}\]

giving you \[1-\frac{5x^2+4x+4}{x^3+5x^2+8x+4}\]
