8.66g of X( molar masa 58gmol^-1) was decomposed into its elements as 5.22g of C, 0.96g of H and 2.48g of O. Determine its emprical and molecular formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first find the % compostion =mass of element/mass of compound *100 find moles of each element by dividing the % by atomic mass of elements determine the atomic ratio .to get this divide moles by the smallest no. of moles if it is simple whole no. ratio it gives empiricle formula., otherwise multiply with a suitable digit to get whole no. now find empiricle formula mass molecular formula=n* empiricle formula n=molecular formula mass/empiricle formula mass you can do the calculations........i think
