@ash2326

OpenStudy (ankit042):

@dianadelucio you know what variance is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? :/

OpenStudy (amistre64):

subtract the mean from the given Xs and square the results then take the average of those results

OpenStudy (amistre64):

might have to amend that some

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mean is when you add and divide by how many terms, right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ankit042 noo i dont\

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[{7(\bar x-13)^2+21(\bar x-16)^2+17(\bar x-18)^2+25(\bar x-21)^2\\+5(\bar x-23)^2+4(\bar x-25)^2+13(\bar x-26)^2+8(\bar x-31)^2}\\-----------------------\\~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{100}\] something like that is the way i see it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 21.625

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i subtract the mean? subtract from what?

OpenStudy (ankit042):

variance describes how far number lie from the mean. Now we know that the mean of this distribution is 20.59. You can easily calculate the value using formula told by @amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the corrrect answer, :) thansk tho! :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

site went out on me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me tooo :l @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i used excel, and then had a moment of clarity with my ti83 .... i get 23.1819 when i worked it all out. you say you got 21.625?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeaa but mine was wronggg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer was 23.18

OpenStudy (amistre64):
