what is an isotope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isotopes have same number of proton in the nucleus and and same number of electrons spinning around. but they don't have the same number of neutrons... simply, they have the same atomic number but different mass number (due to the difference in the number of neutrons...

Thanks

like in case of carbon, isotopes are 6 C 12,and 6 C 14. here both have same number of electrons/protons,but different no of neutrons. in case of C12 it is 6,the later is 8
