If you had a circle at radius located at origin with radius, r, you would have \(x^{2} + y^{2} = r^{2}\). And if you moved the same circle to x = -3, from the current position, you would have instead \((x+3)^{2} + y^{2} = r^{2}\). This would put the center of the circle at (-3,0) with radius r. Now what is your "r" and if you moved this circle 1 unit up in the "y" direction, how would that change this equation?
how do i find r?
since the radius in my original equation is determine by Pythagoras's Theorem to be \(r^{2}\), what do you think is the value of the hypotenuse (i.e. radius)? |dw:1375397861576:dw|
