x-2y+3z=18
This equation represents a plane in three dimensions. What would you like to do with the equation?
Solve the system of equations and find x y and z
You have one single equation in three unknowns. The solution set will consist of a variable expressed in terms of the other two, such as \( S=\{18+2y-3z\ \ \forall\ y,z\in\ R \}\) You can specify for which unknown to be solved. If you have a system of equations, you need three equations to find an explicit solution (if it exists).
x-2y+3z=18 9x+2y-z=-2 -6x-y+2z=4 here is the entire problem
What methods have you used in school?
elimination
Using elimination, you have a free choice of which variable to eliminate first. I usually choose the easiest one to do. Which one would you choose?
I eliminated y first but i didn't get the right answer
You will only know if you get the right answer after you've found all x,y, & z. If you have already done the whole process, would you like to share that with me?
I got x = 2 y=-5 z=2
Surprising that you did not have the right answer, yet they are all integers. Can you show me your first step?
x-2y+3z=18 9x+2y-z=-2 ______________________ 10x-2z=16 I eliminated -2y and 2y
Good, well done! and the next step?
I just saw an error in my second step let me work on it
